Janko Lauenberger, Juliane von Wedemeyer - Ede and Unku – The True Story

Modern history – personal and emotional

Ede and Unku – with sales of over 5 million copies one of the largest-selling books in Germany. The first edition was published in 1931, and the book about the unusual friendship between working class lad Ede and Sinti girl Unku during the Weimar Republic was read in schools for many years. What few people know, however, is that shortly after Hitler came to power the book was prohibited and the "gypsy girl" Unku killed in a concentration camp.

Musician Janko Lauenberger is a relative of Unku. In this book he tells her true story.
