Viktor Puppe of the Berlin State Criminal Police and his partner Ken are called to the scene of a gruesome crime. On a fenced-off piece of land, a Vatican ambassador is found dead, his body marked by terrible burns. At the scene, they discover a sequence of Roman numerals.
