Monika Feth - The Girl Painter

The sequel to the bestseller ‘The Strawberry Picker’ (over 20,000 copies sold since November 2004)

Psychologically brilliant, breathtakingly suspenseful, atmospherically thick, and with fascinating characters: like its predecessor ‘The Strawberry Picker’, this psychothriller has the makings of a cult mystery novel!

Strong women characters in the foreground of the plot – a successful formula for women’s mysteries, adeptly applied in a book for young people!

It’s already winter, and Jette and Merle are still grieving for their friend Caro, a young women who was murdered. A little while ago, Mike became a housemate in their apartment; the two young women wanted a man to replace Caro, but for Caro there is in any case no replacement. Through Mike, Jette gets to know Ilka, a young women her own age, who Mike is in love with. Yet he’s getting nowhere with Ilka, who has been living with an aunt ever since her parents were killed in a traffic accident.
Then Ilka disappears without a trace. Jette tells the police that Ilka could have been abducted – but Detective Melzig doesn’t agree with her, feeling that her reaction is exaggerated.

Jette begins her own investigation and soon comes upon a dark period in Ilka’s past: Ilka had in vain tried to free herself from the clutches of her brother Ruben, a popular artist and one of the most desired men of the city. She had broken off contact with him, but recently he has often tried to re-establish the intimate sibling relationship they once had.
During her search for Ilka, Jette ends up in the house of this artist, whose influence on women has an effect even on her – and so she has unwillingly puts herself in danger. Ruben, obsessed by his love for his sister, has abducted her and is holding her captive in a soundproof basement. When Jette encounters him, he loses control and takes her captive as well …
Nearly too late, the detective realises that Jette was correct in her abduction theory. In the last second he is able to rescue both young women from the artist.

As sequel to ‘The Strawberry Picker’: a psychologically thick mystery told from various perspectives, whose breathtaking tension derives not so much from the question ‘Who did it?’ but rather from the fascination that the characters radiate.
