Sonja Hartwig - Kazım, how can we manage this?

The portrait of a psychologist whose work has made him into an integration expert

Kazım Erdoğan is indefatigable, spending as he does eighteen, nineteen, twenty hours a day out and about in the cause of helping people towards a peaceful, fair coexistence and putting an end to violence and a lack of communication in our society. His method is simple in the extreme: accepting people as they are, intelligibility, respect; he collects people where they are and – social worker-cum-psychologist-cum-big brother – offers them real, tangible help. As the founder of the first self-help group of Turkish men and the chairman of his association, "Rise Up Neukölln", he has made a name for himself in politics and the media; in 2012 he was awarded the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Sonja Hartwig accompanied Erdoğan for five years and has painted an affectionate portrait of the "Caliph of Neukölln" and his Turkish men, demonstrating how a peaceful coexistence can work.

The message is simple and good: Even little steps can go a long way to help.
