Walter Moers - Christmas at Lindworm Castle

This Zamonian Christmas story should be under every Christmas tree

When Walter Moers was sorting through the correspondence between Hildegunst von Mythenmetz and Eydeeten Hachmed Ben Kibitzer from Buchhaim, he stumbled across a letter in which the Zamonian writer describes a festival that to Moers has a striking resemblance to our Christmas. Every year, the Lindworms of Buchhaim celebrate a festival they call "Hamoulimepp". During these three feast days, attention is focused on the two characters "Hamouli" and "Mepp", who are amazingly similar to our Father Christmas and Knecht Ruprecht. In addition, the tradition also includes Hamoulimepp worms, Hamoulimepp worm dwarfs, unhealthy food, a book clearout, a fireless firework display and lots more besides. According to Moers, who is not keen on Christmas celebrations, this letter by Mythenmetz provides an in-depth view of the customs of a popular Zamonian form of life, that of the Lindworms. Never has Christmas been as Zamonian as this.
