Marcel Reich-Ranicki

Marcel Reich-Ranicki, born in Vlocklavek (Poland) on 2nd June 1920, moved to Berlin in 1929, where he remained until 1938. From 1938 to 1958, he lived in Warsaw. In 1958, he returned to Germany and was a critic with Die Zeit until 1973, and head of literary criticism with the Frankfurter Allgemeine until 1988. From 1988 to 2001, he had his own television program, ”Das literarische Quartett“ (The Literary Quartet). Many publications, numerous honorary doctorates and many awards, such as the Ricarda Huch Prize in 1981, the Thomas Mann Prize in 1987, the Ludwig Börne prize in 1995 and the Goethe Prize in 2002. Marcel Reich-Ranicki died 2013 in Frankfurt/Main.
