Joseph Ratzinger

Joseph Ratzinger was born in 1927 in Marktl am Inn. He was a professor of systematic theology in Freising, Bonn, Münster, Tübingen and Regensburg and the youngest theological advisor to the Second Vatican Council (1962-1965). In 1977, he was named Archbishop of Munich and Freising, and in 1981 Pope John Paul II appointed him Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. On April 19, 2005 he became the first German in 482 years to be elected to the Holy Seed.
