A woman flees to freedom and emancipates herself

Selma comes with her parents to Neu-Isenberg from Turkey as a toddler in 1965. She quickly learns German, but at home the customs and traditions are those from Turkey. When her parents' marriage breaks up, her mother allows sixteen-year-old Selma to become engaged to Ismet. Unsuspectingly, Selma goes to see her father – and the visit ends in catastrophe. Selma has long since been promised to Orhan. And Orhan takes what he sees as his due. He rapes her and afterwards they have to immediately get married. This is followed by years of humiliation and abuse. But Selma does not give up. She fights to survive – for her little girl and for Ismet, whom she still carries in her heart …

The true story of a woman who escapes from a violent marriage and has the courage to lead a self-determined life with her daughter.
