Torsten Fink - The Thief

Maru is a slave. She is destined to serve in the palace kitchen and work on the fields outside the town – until she is bought by the unscrupulous grave Tasil, who misuses Maru as a figure in his dangerous game of wealth and power. With her help, he skilfully plays off the two heirs to the throne of Serkesh against each other.
There is also an ancient demon called Utukku, who is developing an interest in the young woman, for he has realised that in the veins of the slave there flows the blood of the mighty magicians of the swamps. Not until Maru has to fight for her life does he reveal to her his desire. He needs but a few drops of her blood to allow his power to grow enough to enable him to save her life.
