Detective chief superintendent Alexis Hall and criminal biologist Karen Hellstern are called to a scene of crime near a sewage works. The dead woman has a medallion round her neck with a spider enclosed in resin. On the basis of water probes, Hellstern discovers that the woman was killed in some woods not far off. Further remains are unearthed here, finger bones and the corpses of a total of twelve women. All under thirty and all wearing a cross-spider medallion.
