Maximilian Dorner - Stand Up, Even if You Can't

Why moaning and groaning doesn't get you anywhere and sympathy can get on your nerves

This is not a book for one night. That's got something to do with its subject, for it is about all kinds of handicap – and, what is more important, what we make of them. In a nutshell, it contains two recommendations: don't look away and don't get tense!

Maximilian Dorner is a writer, activist and theatre maker and has been using a wheelchair for ten years as the result of a nerve disease. Not a day goes by without him getting hot under the collar about his own limitations, the imbecility of others and not infrequently other handicapped people or a broken lift. This is his own personal call for rebellion – and a passionate declaration of love to life with all its contradictions.
