Andreas Gabriel - Over the Water

2 years and 16,000 kilometres: the report of a true adventurer

"If I had known what I was letting myself in for, I would never have set off on this trip", says Andreas Gabriel half a year after his departure. His aim: to sail all the way round Europe, 8,000 sea miles without any money and in a "Kajakmaran", a home-made conveyance consisting of two kayaks, two sails and an outboard engine for emergencies. Wind and weather take it out of Gabriel; he often has no idea where to get something to eat; he is homesick. Yet his urge for freedom and his fighting spirit win the day – Gabriel carries on, carried by encounters with people who again and again surprise him with their curiosity, their good wishes and their generosity.

During the journey, which finally took him two years, he goes through a change. He returns home a new person; his belief in his own strength, knowing what is really important in life and a new view of the people around him were his compass on a journey to himself.
