Claire Winter - Children of their Time

Lives apart – two sisters in Berlin during the Cold War

Twins Emma and Alice were torn apart while fleeing from East Prussia in 1945. They each think the other hasn't survived. Emma grows up in West Berlin, Alice in a home in East Germany.

It is not until twelve years later that they unexpectedly find each other again. Through Emma, Alice gets to know the East Berlin physicist Julius Laakmann. When Julius witnesses someone being abducted he gets caught up between the secret services. Then Alice disappears without trace. Too late Emma realises the imminent danger she and her sister are facing. In the meantime, the Cold War reaches a new climax – Berlin is to be divided for ever …

For all readers of Annette Hess, Anne Gesthuysen and Carmen Korn.
