Ulrich Ritzel - The 150 Days of Markus Morgart

"There's no doubt about it: you'll want to read more by this writer." Die Zeit

It is a rainy evening when Lukas Gsell, an unsuccessful writer, walks his sick neighbour's dog along the promenade high about the town. Once it has been let off the lead, the dog barks at a man sitting alone on a bench. Gsell hurries over, puts the dog on the lead and apologises. But the man only shrugs.

The next morning Gsell finds out that the taciturn man shot himself in the head that very night. The man's name: Markus Morgart, an internationally active investor. He survived the suicide attempt but partly lost his memory as a result. Gsell, for some reason he cannot explain to himself, feels partly responsible for what has happened. He visits the man in rehab and, after some hesitation, is accepted as a travel companion on a journey on which Morgart wants to find his way back to life …

"Ritzel's novel is a great epic story about searching and the sense of life."

Hamburger Abendblatt
