Ingo Siegner - Little Dragon Coconut goes to school

Little Dragon Coconut is so excited. This is his first day at school! Carrying a big, brightly coloured school bag, and accompanied by his mother Mette and father Magnus, he sets off with the other dragon children to the school cave, where Cornelius Cactus the teacher is waiting for his new little pupils.
On the way Coconut meets the carnivorous dragon Oscar, who watches the hustle and bustle outside the school cave curiously from his hiding-place. Carnivorous dragons don’t go to school and never have – after all, there’s always the danger that they might eat their classmates. What a pity, because Oscar would really love to learn writing and arithmetic, and never in his wildest dreams would he think of eating a fellow pupil!
To help his new friend, Coconut decides to convince Oscar’s parents that it would be all right to let the little carnivorous dragon go to school. But sad to say the conversation doesn’t go as he hoped: Herbert and Adele think all carnivorous dragons need to know is how to hunt and eat!
But Coconut and his new friend are not about to be discouraged. From now on Oscar just goes to school in secret every day, and he learns lots of useful and important things with the little fire-breathing dragons. And when Cornelius the teacher takes them swimming, once Oscar has got over his first fright he proves the best swimmer in the class.
When the dragon children’s raft looks like capsizing on an outing, he bravely saves a precious stone from the water. And so at last even Oscar’s parents realize that you can sometimes learn very useful things at school.
As for Coconut, he has a new friend. It turns out that – contrary to what everyone thinks – fire-breathing and carnivorous dragons can get on with each other very well. So now the two dragon children look forward to every new school day together expectantly and full of curiosity.
