Matthias Lohre - The Legacy of the Grandchildren of War

An encouraging book on how the transgenerational trauma of war can be healed

Matthias Lohre sets out to look for his deceased parents. Using his own personal story as an example, he shows the problems still faced by the descendants of the war generation even today: the traumatic experiences of their parents have led to the grandchildren of war struggling with a lack of self-esteem, extreme feelings of guilt and vague feelings of anxiety. A catastrophe they themselves never went through has imprinted itself in their minds. These grandchildren are now about 40 to 60 years old, and they have one last chance to track down the psychological rubble of their family past. Matthias Lohre uses his own encouraging example to demonstrate how true reconciliation can succeed.

"The parent generation rolled up their sleeves in order to get rid of the external rubble. The removal of the psychological rubble within is the task of the grandchildren." (Kriegsenkel-Kongress, Göttingen 2013).
